WARNING: Proud mama moment ahead…

Being proud of each of my kids and who they are is a daily occurrence for me.  Every day I am thankful for the people they are and the hearts they possess.

But every so often each of them does something that amazes me and makes my soul sing because I get to see a whole new part of them that is emerging and making itself known.

This time it was Blake’s turn…

This weekend was the opening weekend for the musical Grease at Blake’s high school.  Blake played the part of Kenickie, and boy oh boy, did he have fun with it!  His sense of humor came through in each line as he poured himself heart and soul into the part.  He sang and danced without fear or inhibition and rocked his solo in the song “Greased Lightning”.  There was even a time when a prop accidentally broke and he worked some hilarious improv in, to the crowd’s delight.

He did an incredible job in this, his first play. The whole musical was just fantastic and so well done.  But beyond the obvious of being proud of his talent and accomplishment, what put the indelible smile on my face was to see my boy’s smile in doing something he absolutely loved.  To see your child try something new and then so enjoy it is priceless.  To know that he was experiencing a new kind of non-athletic teamwork and a comradery with new people just made for a really, really happy mommy moment.

Okay, I’m done.  For now.  🙂  But I wish you could’ve been there.  Then you’d understand why I couldn’t help this little moment of rambling…

My crazy little Kenickie…(before and after the haircut…)
