Before my grandma died, she made sure that I had a collection of poems that she’d been telling me about for a long time.  They were written by my great, great, great grandmother at the beginning of the 20th century.  One hundred poems of faith and scripture and life passed down multiple generations.  A priceless gift of the heritage of both faith and a love for writing.

As I read through the poems I couldn’t help but notice something.  More than one hundred years ago, God’s character and man’s needs and desires were exactly the same as they are today.  God is still the answer to all of man’s questions, to all of his longings, whether man recognizes it or not.  He provides the love, security, acceptance, meaning that we all crave.

I hope I get the chance to do a writing project that compares her writings to mine, to illustrate the fact that God and our need of Him are timeless.  Her heart sang out, cried out, called out to the very same God for the very same things that my heart does. She had an intimate relationship with her Friend, Savior, Lord, Creator, and chose to write about it just like I do.  She is an ancestor I never met and I am her “future offspring”. Our worlds would look very different placed side by side.  But our souls would match up beautifully.  I can’t wait to meet her ONE DAY…

Next weekend is my grandma’s memorial service.  As we’re all together it will be another picture of heritage and timeless truth.  One woman’s life making a huge impact on her world because she shared the great reality that God is the same through all generations.  That His love is as unending as our need of Him and that love.

I am overcome, overwhelmed, and overjoyed at that unfathomable thought…

Hebrews 13:8 – Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

Jeremiah 31:3 – The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness…”

Romans 8:38-39 –  For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, ]neither the present nor the future, nor any powers,  neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of Godthat is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Let's stay connected!
