A whirlwind of activity is flying through my brain –

Things to buy.

Things to send.

Things to decorate.

Things to bake.

The more I do, the more I need to do –

Things to buy.

Things to send.

Things to decorate.

Things to bake.

Time is ticking away and I’m not done yet –

Things to buy.

Things to send.

Things to decorate.

Things to bake.

What if I can’t finish the list that rages in my head?  I still have:

Things to buy.

Things to send.

Things to decorate.

Things to bake.

What would be left if not for:

Things to buy.

Things to send.

Things decorate.

Things to bake.

Because, after all, as “important” as they are, they ARE only things.

And when

Things to buy and send and decorate and bake

Are removed from they equation, there is still quite a lot.

People to love.

People to spend time with.

People to enjoy.

People to remind us of what this season is really all about.

Because Christmas is really only about One thing –

One Person to celebrate.

One Person to worship and adore.

One Person who gave everything to love us.

One Person who brought us LIFE that first Christmas.

And suddenly:

My list gets shorter.

My vision gets clearer.

My stress decreases.

My joy wraps around me like a blanket.

In knowing that all the “things” I will do today aren’t what makes Christmas great.  It’s the people.  It’s the PERSON who did the ONLY THING truly necessary for us.

Thank you, Jesus….

Luke 10:41-42 – “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
