“Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow….”  I love that phrase from the wonderful old hymn.  It ties so beautifully with Matthew 7:33-34 – “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.  Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.  Each day has enough trouble of its own.”  God only gives us 24 hours at a time.  This doesn’t mean that we only live for today or don’t plan for tomorrow.  But we don’t have to WORRY for tomorrow.   He gives us strength and everything we need to handle this day.  And as we “seek first his kingdom and his righteousness” today our focus on the future changes from worry to hope. If His will becomes mine and if my greatest desire is to love Him and others (righteousness) then I can REST knowing that He holds tomorrow and whatever it might bring in the very palm of His hand.

“….bright hope for tomorrow…”  That’s what we have.   Romans 8:24-25 – “For in this HOPE we were saved.  But hope that is seen is no hope at all.  Who hopes for what he already has?  But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we WAIT for it patiently.”  So whatever today brings, we can REST as we look toward tomorrow because we have this knowledge and hope – Romans 8:28 – “And we KNOW that in ALL THINGS God works for the GOOD of those who LOVE him, who have been called according to HIS PURPOSE.”
