(I have been working on creating a “girl cave” for myself in the unfinished portion of our basement.  I have been so  focused and excited about the finished product that I have had a few mishaps along the way.  Moments where common sense was trumped by, well, common nonsense.  Oh, wait…that’s just another normal day for me…)

Staple gun in hand

On a ladder near the ceiling

Hanging lovely fabrics

For a warm and cozy feeling

Climbing down and moving on

The next spot to decorate

I quickly moved the ladder

But did not anticipate

What was about to happen

Because this girl forgot

To remove the giant staple gun

From it’s “top o’ the ladder” spot

AND THEN IT HIT ME…

Crashing down upon me

Hard upon my skull

The impact left me dizzy

With a headache not so dull

Yep, that’s when it hit me…

But on to the next project

I bravely made my way

I grabbed my hammer and the nails

Some art and such to hang

Feeling rather skillful

In this great endeavor

I pounded nails quick and hard

Proud I was so clever

AND THEN IT HIT ME…

The hammer hit a nail

But the nail it hit was mine

Words came out that shouldn’t have

The only words that I could find

Sounds of pain and anger

Emerged as cries and yelps

But though they eased the tension

The pain they didn’t help.

Yep, that’s when it hit me.

Splinters? I got many.

Aches and pains?  A few.

Bruises, bumps and blisters?

More than my fair share, it’s true.

AND THEN IT HIT ME….

Anything worth having

Is worthy of some pain

Every goal is worth the fight

To see results attained

The aches that this world offers

Try to slow us down

To hurt and to defeat us

But here is what I’ve found

The bumps, they give us texture

The bruises, they add a hue

The cuts and scrapes give depth to us

The splinters,  inside view

Yep that’s when it hit me…
