(For my sweet friends on either end of the miracle spectrum…xoxoxo)

When did we stop believing in miracles?

When did we become convinced that anything at all was just short of God’s reach, His touch?

When did we voluntarily hand over hope to fear and doubt and despair?

Somehow as we matured in age, we regressed in faith.

As if miracles were nothing more than fairytales, reserved only for a select few, and only if you were good enough to deserve one.

Our eyesight has somehow dulled to the perception of the “yet to be”.

Our vision so impaired that we can only see what is right in front of us at this very minute and not the tiny, mustard seed happenings and minuscule miracles that are at work behind the obvious.

The miracle we long for is instantaneous.  It’s fireworks in the sky accompanied by a powerful symphony.  We want it now and we want it big.

But what if big miracles come by way of miniature bursts of hope and progress?  What if the biggest miracle of all is what happens inside us as we wait and watch?

I spoke with two wonderful women yesterday.  Friends on either side of the spectrum.  One who is seeing a culmination of itty bitty miracles that have combined to form God art all over her life after years of seeming impossibility.  Tears of thankfulness and awe in seeing God answer in ways she never could have imagined.  Even the difficult times proving to be part of the miracle process.

And the other friend at the precipice of despair, screaming at the top of her emotional lungs, crying for Jesus to do something.  No miracle in sight.  Every human perspective pointing at hopelessness.

But I’m reminded that God’s specialty is working from the bottom up.  Joseph in a pit and a prison.  Daniel in a lion’s den.  Noah in a flood.  Paul in blindness and behind bars. Jesus in a grave.  These are the places where miracles brew.

It’s at the end of the rope, the bottom of the barrel, our wits’ end that our eyes are finally ready for a miracle.  Desperate to watch and see something happen.  Attentive enough not to miss it.  We are humbled enough to ask for God’s help.

No matter our circumstances, we need to be aware that not a second goes by that God’s miracle working hands aren’t at work.  He hasn’t missed a thing.  And whether it’s a circumstance or person that we are pleading for, the biggest change will be in our own hearts, minds and spirits.  Depth and growth and newfound faith.

The very greatest miracle of all…

Ephesians 3:20 – Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.

John 20:30 – Therefore many other signs Jesus also performed in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.

Matthew 15:30 – Then great multitudes came to Him, having with them the lame, blind, mute, maimed, and many others; and they laid them down at Jesus’ feet, and He healed them.

Psalm 77:14 – You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples.

Psalm 3:3-6 – But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high. I call out to the Lordand he answers me from his holy mountain. I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me. I will not fear though tens of thousands assail me on every side.
